MoKa House
In 2006, Kathryn was lucky enough to stumble into a terrific opportunity and smart enough to recognize it as one. She was at a BBQ in her hometown when she met another writer, Moniqua Lane, who had a similar working style and similar goals to what Kathryn had. They began discussing these goals and quickly decided to enter into a partnership to help each other achieve these goals.
They formed MoKa House, a media company specializing in freelance writing services for both individuals and businesses. This company allowed them to each pursue their own creative writing endeavors while also exploring their inclinations in the business world. Together they oversaw a staff of independently contracted writers who met the needs of a wide range of clients. Areas of the organization that Kathryn oversaw included projects relating to travel, music writing (including full PR services), web content and blogs.
Unfortunately, at the end of 2007, MoKa House dissolved. This was due to a number of factors, primarily relating to the different personal directions that each Moniqua and Kathryn wanted to take with their work. The conclusion was reached that it made more sense to dissolve the business than to work at it only part-time while doing other work. Although the company has dissolved, it served as a terrific experience for Kathryn. Her editing skills and abaility to oversee the work of a large staff were greatly developed during this time.
MoKa House was happy to help launch and develop the careers of a number of different writers. It was through this experience that Kathryn began exploring the possibilities of working as a writing consultant to assist other young writers to navigate the nuances of a professional writing career. She plans to forge forward with her consulting services uses the foundation that was established by MoKa House.
